Mesothelioma is a cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, a mineral. Currently, less than 1 in 10 patients with mesothelioma survive five years after diagnosis. New research using artificial intelligence to analyze genetic information from patients has shown that the development of the disease follows a predictable path. Knowing this can help medical providers to choose the best treatment and will also help in the development of new treatments for mesothelioma. The approach can also be applied to other cancers.
