US Has Nearly 12,000,000 Cancer Survivors.

Due to better cancer detection, diagnsosis and treatment, the number of cancer survivors in the U.S. continues to increase.  As of 2007, there were approximately 11.7 million cancer survivors in the U.S.  According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "As of January 1, 2007, an estimated 64.8% of cancer survivors had lived ≥5 years after their diagnosis of cancer, and 59.5% of survivors were aged ≥65 years."  These numbers are expected  to get even better as treatments advance.
