Is a single PSA test at age 60 enough to predict prostate cancer risk?

A Swedish study of 1167 men found that a single prostate specific antigen (PSA) test at age 60 was able to accurately predict which men were likely to develop aggressive prostate cancer.  The men were part of a large Swedish prevention study and were followed until age 85.  The results suggest that men with lower PSA levels at age 60 might be able to forego additional testing.  Another article in the same issue of the British Medical Journal and an editorial discuss the role of PSA testing in the detection of prostate cancer.
