Usage: Loperamide (Imodium) works to treat diarrhea by slowing the passage of waste through the bowel to allow for more complete absorbtion of water and nutrients. This drug is given as an oral tablet or liquid. (1)

Mechanism: Loperamide slows down muscle contractions in the walls of the intestine.

Side Effects: The most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth This medicine should be used in conjunction with fluids to prevent dehydration.
