Additional Resources

There are many places to get reliable cancer information, both in text form and on the Internet. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of unreliable information as well so it is important to locate information from the most credible sources possible. Publications and websites from government (.gov) and educational (.edu) organizations are good places to begin. We have chosen a few sources that we feel are accurate and reliable.

Books

An excellent and current textbook on cancer is The Biology of Cancer, 2nd edition by Robert Weinberg; published by Garland Science, Taylor and Francis Group, NY, NY (2013).
  • Biological Science, 6th edition. Scott Freeman, Kim Quillin, Lizabeth Allison, Michael Black, Emily Taylor, Greg Podgorski, Jeff Carmichael. Pearson Education Inc.,  NY, NY (2016) This is a very good introductory general biology text that is used by both high school and undergraduate college students. Textbook Website
  • Cell and Molecular Biology, 8th edition. Gerald Karp; published by John Wiley and Sons, Inc. NY, NY (2015) This text is an introduction to molecular biology and is designed for students in the sophomore/junior level. It has overlap with the text listed above but goes into more detail in some areas. It has an emphasis on molecular processes. Textbook Website
  • Oncogenes, 2nd edition. Geoffrey Cooper; published by Jones and Bartlett, Sudbury, MA (1995) This is an old book but it still contains useful information on oncogenes, tumor suppressors and the study of cancer.Textbook Website
